This course will introduce students to music theory, giving them the skills necessary to read and write Western music notation, as well as to understand, analyze, and listen to various musical elements. The course covers material such as the musical staff, clefs, pitch and rhythm, time signatures, key signatures, scales and basic harmony.
In this lesson, we will examine the fundamental rudiments of music theory. You will be introduced to the staff, clefs and the note-naming systems used in western music. We will also explore basics of the grand staff as well as the importance of middle C.
In this lesson, we will examine the fundamental rudiments of time and beats within music theory. You will be introduced to the various note symbols and their associated beat values, rests symbols and their associated beat values, as well as dots and their effect on note and rest symbols. We will also explore the relationship and equivalencies between note and rest types.
In this lesson, we will examine the fundamental rudiments of time and phrasing within music theory. You will be introduced to basic time signatures and their relevance to time and beats, bar lines, and ties. We will also explore rudimentary phrasing with notes and rests and learning the proper techniques associated with phrasing and beaming.
In this lesson, we will examine the fundamental rudiments of tones and semitones within music theory. You will be introduced to basic note distant measurements, accidentals and you will learn about the remaining 5 pitches. We will also explore proper notation techniques associated with accidental and enharmonic equivalencies.
In this lesson, we will examine the fundamental concepts of scales within music theory. You will be introduced to diatonic major and minor scales, scale construction and notation, and technical terms. We will also explore the tonal system of these scales as well, and we will introduce you to the octave.
